You also can visit the Via dell'Amore (Way of Love), a very beautiful and romantic pedestrian way on the sea which start in Riomaggiore and finishes in Manarola, its not very long, just 20 minutes by feet, but it is famous all over the world and it worth a visit for its unforgettable beauty.

The birth of the Via dell'Amore is due to a occasional circumstances: the enlargement after 1920 of the the railway tunnel between line La Spezia-Genoa that connects the station of Manarola to Riomaggiore. To ensure the two villages, in halfway was built a sort of deposit where to store explosive material needed for completion of work. To unite the opposites jobs yards were necessary to open two small rocky trails.
Having completed the work and removed the storage of explosives, between the inhabitants of two towns began to spread the idea of using those two paths carved into the rock to join Riomaggiore and Manarola.
In the thirties, thanks to the work of volunteers and generosity of citizens, was born the Via dell'Amore.
As the trail soon became the destination for the young lovers, an anonymous decided to draw with lime at both ends of the way "Via dell'Amore".
